The sponsors for my project at NID, Ahmedabad, were Himatsingka Seide Ltd, a 100% export oriented home furnishing jacquard weaving company particularly in silk and other natural fibers targeted for up-market furnishing houses, fashion designers, and design editors in Europe and North America. The school of Indian miniature painting has always been my source of inspiration as an artist with the exception of the Mughal and Company schools. After analyzing a few woven trials, I decided to develop
contemporary designs for international markets based on Indian miniature painting. I commenced with an in-depth research study on Indian miniature painting and eventually developed ten themes of home furnishing fabrics in flat weaving and four themes in velvet weaving for the European and American markets for the year 2009-2010. In addition, I worked on a range of textile sculptures. HSL believes in re-utilizing industrial waste. This led me to build up a range of green textile sculptures.
